Long Distance
Who would have thought years and years ago how diverse and mixed our planet would be. With the internet you are able to meet people that you would have never met before. And have relationships over long distance that no one could have dreamed of. It's a pretty amazing thing when you really think about it.
I lay in bed at night sometimes just thinking about that and how lucky I am to have met someone like Kevin. Kevin lives in Australia; half a world away! Yet, over the course of several years we have grown so close. He is my best friend and I can't imagine life without him. He was here for three months and one of the hardest things I've ever had to do was send him back on that plane. Long distance relationships are very hard though. And I believe they are even harder once you have been together and then you are forced back apart. The only thing you can do is wait.
And wait is what we do. We filed the immigration paperwork as soon as he left. That was back in March. Luckily the paperwork goes to the Vermont Service Center with an average time of five months. Texas has an average time of 18.5 months! I'm really glad it didn't go there. So we are almost at three months down, but the time apart is difficult. We talk when he wakes up in the morning which is the evening for me. Then I head to bed and he goes about his day. Then we talk again when I get up, which is usually at 4:00 am each morning; which is now his evening. We do the best we can and spend whatever time we can together.
Once the application goes through the Vermont Service Center they will set up a meeting at the Consulate in Australia. He will have to go there and have an interview. So I'm workign on an album right now that he will take with him. It's the motivation I needed to get back into Scrapbooking. It has been 2 or 3 years since I have done anything. It feels good to get back to what I love doing. I'm doing an 8.5 x 11 album so its easier to ship. I have never done an 8.5 x 11 album and I find it really difficult! I'm use to my 12 x 12 and I have so much space to manipulate. But I don't think they are turning out half bad. It's definitely a challenge!
So, we will continue to wait and I will work on getting this album done in the meantime. It seems like forever since he was here even though it has only been a few months. Hopefully the time will go by a little quicker and we can get him back home to us where he belongs.
